CARL (vs. ESS)

The Bombers have been getting away with murder lately. They still nearly lost to North who were only left with 3 kids in the middle by the end of the game. Snuck in against the Tigers who tired badly. Before that they got well and truly thumped by Brisbane and had the biggest x-score differential of the season against Port (got away with murder). And of course, beating the Eagles doesn't count. The Blues will tag Merrett with Curnow which stops their major weapon, should dominate out of the midfield and be too good with their key forwards which is another area in which Essendon struggle.

DISPOSALS

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (u22.5)

NWM has taken up the kick-in responsibilities this year in a 60/40 split with Jack Sinclair. He’s been on a tear in recent week against some easy matchups but the Swans are back to their 2022 way in defending the kickers behind the ball. This time its a team effort and not all just because Ryan Clarke is strangling the #1 ball user. NWM should struggle in the small spaces of the SCG tonight.

Dom Sheed (u25.5)

Sheed went crazy last week but will start to see some competition for time in the middle now with Yeo getting fitter and Shuey coming back into the side.

He also sees the toughest away matchup for uncontested players at -18% and -9% at Adelaide Oval for midfielders.

Daniel Rioli (u21.5)

Nick Vlastuin comes in this week to take the majority of the kick-ins which will chop 1 or 2 off of Rioli here. Fremantle have also been one of the toughest teams for half backs over the last month. We’ve had 5mm of rain this afternoon in Perth which won’t help his case. He also copped a knock and spend a large portion of the 2nd quarter off the ground against Port a few weeks ago and then struggled last week against the Giants.

Hopefully he’s still carrying something but we feel this goes under anyway.

Zac Merrett (u31.5)

It had to happen. One day AFL coaches were bound to catch on to the fact that Merrett is the only thing stopping them from beating the Bombers at the moment. As soon as Ratten put Shiels to him, North took over the game and should’ve won in the end. Adam Simpson has justifiably given up on life so didn’t bother. However the Blues do one thing right and have a history of putting attention into Merrett and have brought in the gnarled slug, Ed Curnow to do the job once again. This plays into our head-to-head play on the Blues today as we expect them to dominate out of the middle and be took good inside forward 50.

Lachie Whitfield (u30.5)

Whitfield has been taking a monstrous amount of piss lately with some easy matchups and Cumming out of the side. Since Ratts took over however, opposition designated kickers have gone 0/8 against North with the Bombers in particular struggling last week. This is a stupidly high number for Whitfield historically and it’s time to punch the unders.

GOALSCORERS

Harry Himmelberg

Cadman out and Haynes in means HH is returning to the fwd line. GWS also had the second most inside 50s for a losing team since 2017 so will be extra keen on making the most of them against North.
